Authentic Voices Programme
Questa Kids is committed to ensuring that our Country Quests are culturally responsible, considered and responsive to various communities, while ensuring that children remain at the centre of our work.
In order to ensure that authenticity, we regularly contact people who have interesting perspectives on their own country. We do this through one on one sessions, or group work - where we invite a number of people (usually women) from one specific country for a roundtable session via Zoom.
We’re always looking for people who are willing to contribute their thoughts, learning and creativity to help us learn more about the countries we’re researching.
What is Questa Kids?
Questa Kids is an online educational game for children aged 7-12.
It follows Questa and Zeke, a hesitant learner and her extra-terrestrial not-friend, as they try to save the knowledge of the future. Together they travel through space and time, country by country, meeting historically significant women. Along the way, kids complete learning activities and research tasks to help Questa and Zeke collect the password needed to save a country's knowledge.
What's the purpose of Questa Kids?
Positive and varied female representation
Encourage kids’ curiosity, tolerance and research skills
Get kids learning actively
How does it work?
Famous Women Badge for Tomoe Gozen, Japan
Through each country Quest, Zeke and Questa meet 10-11 women through a country's history. Some are famous, some not. Each woman has a task or activity which the children playing must complete, in order to receive a learning token. Each learning token has a letter on. Once 12 learning tokens have been collected, it creates a password which "completes" the Country Quest. The activities kids complete are varied: creating a map, researching a timeline, listening to a story and completing a wordsearch etc.
When kids meet a woman who really existed, they receive a Famous Woman badge which they can download and keep for themselves.
What do contributors get out of it?
We’re a small organization, at the beginning of our journey, so we can’t afford to pay every person who contributes to our research. However, we are flexible with this rule. We want to ensure that we are not taking the valuable time and energy of our creators, particularly those from marginalized groups, without compensation. Please get in touch if that’s something that is needed or desired from you.
We also offer:
Free memberships to Questa Kids for your kids or kids of friends and family
Possibility to appear on our podcast, Let’s Talk About Parenting
Full credit for your contribution on our website
As much promotion as we can possibly give through our socials and email
Possibility to become an audio character in a Country Quest - which is paid!
We are also flexible on content - if there’s a particular organization you’d like to promote, we are happy to integrate it into the content, provided it is appropriate and child-friendly.
I’d like to be an Authentic Voice!
Great! Drop us a message below telling us a little about you and particularly the country you would like to tell us about. We will get back to you as soon as we can.
