Gudrid Thorbjarnardóttir was a real person
She was born in 980 AD in west Iceland, the daughter of a chieftain and was an explorer who probably travelled to Vinland. The Vinland Sagas, which were stories written about explorers from Iceland, talk about how she travelled to America from Iceland and lived there fore a few years.
This was 500 years before Christopher Columbus travelled to America.
