Leonilla Vasquez Garcia was a real person!

She was an entomologist and lepidopterist. She learned a lot about the old ways of farming cochineal beetles, which was something that lots of scientists ignored. They didn’t think that the old ways were important, but Leonilla disagreed. 

She also spent a lot of time studying Monarch Butterflies and how they move from Canada to Mexico for their migration.
